The International Journal of Emerging Philosophy (IJEP) is a fully open-access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to rigorous philosophical inquiry from emerging scholars at the secondary and early undergraduate levels.
Mission
IJEP was established to address a genuine gap in scholarly publishing: the absence of a rigorous, internationally recognised venue in which emerging philosophers—students at the secondary and early tertiary levels—can contribute original work to philosophical discourse. We believe that the capacity for sustained philosophical argument is not the exclusive province of senior academics, and that the discipline is enriched when younger voices are given a serious platform.
The journal is committed to the same standards of peer review, editorial independence, and scholarly integrity that govern the leading journals in the field. Manuscripts submitted to IJEP are evaluated solely on the merits of their argument, not the institutional affiliation or age of their authors.
Aims & Scope
IJEP publishes original research articles, critical discussions, and review essays across the full range of philosophical inquiry. The journal does not privilege any single school or method; work in both the analytic and continental traditions is welcomed, as are interdisciplinary contributions that engage substantively with philosophical questions.
Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
- Analytic and continental philosophy
- Ethics, metaethics, and moral philosophy
- Metaphysics and epistemology
- Philosophy of mind and cognitive science
- Political and social philosophy
- Philosophy of language and logic
- Philosophy of science and formal methods
- Emerging areas at the intersection of philosophy and technology
All submissions are expected to engage critically with relevant secondary literature and to demonstrate awareness of contemporary debates. IJEP does not publish purely expository or survey work unless it offers a novel critical perspective.
Editorial Model
All manuscripts submitted to IJEP are subject to rigorous double-blind peer review. Each submission is assessed initially by a member of the editorial team for scope and baseline scholarly quality before being forwarded to a minimum of two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers are drawn from the journal’s international reviewer pool, which includes doctoral candidates, early-career researchers, and established academics across philosophy and cognate disciplines.
Editorial decisions—accept, major revision, minor revision, or reject—are made on the basis of reviewer reports and the independent assessment of a handling editor. Authors are provided with anonymised reviewer comments in all cases. IJEP is committed to timely review; we aim to provide an initial decision within eight weeks of submission.
The journal operates under the oversight of an independent Editorial Board, whose members serve fixed terms and are responsible for the journal’s scholarly direction. The Editor-in-Chief holds final responsibility for all editorial decisions.

History & Governance
IJEP was founded in 2025 by a group of philosophy educators committed to creating an international publishing outlet for emerging philosophers. The journal is operated by the IJEP Consortium, a not-for-profit body with regional chapters in Asia-Pacific and North America. It is formally affiliated with the Department of Philosophy at Melbourne High School (Victoria, Australia) and the Humanities Faculty at American High School (United States).
The journal is published on the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). IJEP adheres to the guidelines and best-practice recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), of which it is a member institution.
